Collaboration is an essential part of practically any business operation, and the collaboration platform market has to constantly evolve to keep up with the current trends. For example, Microsoft Teams is the latest iteration of a business collaboration platform from the well-known techno giant, offering a multitude of features for successful collaborations.

Microsoft Teams is available on multiple different operating systems, and its biggest popularity spike has been the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, with millions of employees all over the world being forced to learn how collaboration platforms work to be able to do their job remotely.

Collaboration in Microsoft Teams

However, what’s surprising is that even a large popularity spike can be rather problematic for a company such as Microsoft. If the platform in question is used by more people – there would be more requests and demands for new features, and problems with existing features are found faster, as well.

Luckily enough, there are many different solutions that can be used to enhance a regular user’s Microsoft Teams experience – including fixing existing feature gaps and adding more quality of life features. NC Protect does exactly that, enhancing existing collaboration features and adding newer ones to make sure that the users are both protected and comfortable when it comes to their Team collaborative operations.

NC Protect (https://www.archtis.com/secure-collaboration-in-microsoft-teams/) by archTIS is easy to set up and configure, it offers multiple solutions to existing out-of-the-box MS Teams issues, and has a few custom features on its own, too. Some of the features that NC Protect can offer are advanced chat blocking, fully-featured private channels, third-party sharing based on user attributes, single-channel access capabilities, channel archival capability, and more.

Features of Microsoft Teams

NC Protect’s version of Private channels allows for subsequent changes in the channel’s ruleset, enabling it to be converted from normal to private with little to no effort by restricting access to a specific channel to a specific group of Team Members. The same process can be performed backward, as well – discarding the Private channel’s limitations in terms of availability and thus making it a normal public channel.

Additionally, a Private channel on NC Protect’s terms has no limitations in terms of feature sets, so there is no need for the underlying disconnect between the Private channel and the main Team that it was created for in the classic MS Teams package. This allows for a variety of features to be used inside of Private channels that were not available originally, such as the Planner app and the meeting schedule.

NC Protect is also working quite well when it comes to protecting the information within the system, it can detect and block messages with all kinds of sensitive information in real-time – be it PHI, PII, inappropriate content, payment information, etc. That way it is rather easy to enforce information security policies in different chats and groups to achieve regulatory compliance. NC Protect can also interact retroactively, removing the data that is considered insecure in all of the existing conversations if a new rule was added afterward.

From another standpoint, both creation and management of the Private channels is far easier with NC Protect, since there is no need to increase the number of site collections to support new Private channels. Since NC Protect manages Private chats using user access to them, administrators have that much more time when it comes to managing large numbers of site collections – this, in turn, makes backup tasks far easier to perform, as well.

NC Protect also makes it far easier to share single channels’ content with guests or new members since it’s possible to add extremely specific access permissions to these users for the sake of allowing access to a single Teams channel.

Final Words

Guest access with NC Protect is that much easier to work with and manage, as well, since guest users’ permissions can be managed automatically based on the user’s attributes and permissions. This eliminates the need to create brand-new Teams for guests only to make sure that these guests only have access to specific content. As an example, it is now possible to have a guest in a Team that would not be able to see the content marked as “internal use only” if the guest’s settings were set to not see that information at all.

Additionally, NC Protect can also augment the existing Microsoft Teams interface to remove features for specific user groups. For example, the “Archival” button does not remove the channel itself but rather changes most users’ permissions to not see that channel at all – making it only visible to specific Team Members or Team Owners. This logic can also be applied for a number of other situations – like removing the “Wiki” page for a number of users.
